Crowpits - East Sussex

Located in the High Weald landscape this 17th century listed property overlooks a series of ponds set within a mature oak dell.  Our design for this space restores and enhances the site’s two exisitng ponds, creating a naturalistic and ecological rich garden with a series of walks and immersive destinations.

The restorative vision for the site focuses on creating a heightened sense of nature, improving biodiversity and drawing on the local character of sandstone outcrops to create a series of planted natural rock work cascades.  Fed from a reflective source pool these cascades animate the space and improve water quality.

The woodland planting aims to visually connect the space creating areas of calm using textured green foliage with dark evergreens along with prolonged seasonal interest providing bursts of colour and moments of ephemeral beauty.

The materials palette includes oak, chestnut and sandstone selected for their suitability to fit the spirit ‘of the place’ and to complement the native ecology of the natural woodland setting.
